Annie Leibovitz is an American photographer, born on October 2, 1949. She took her first pictures when she was stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam war.
In high school she became interested in various artistic endeavors, and began to write and play music. When Leibovitz returned to the united states in 1970, she started her career as staff photographer, working for the just launched Rolling Stone magazine, in 1973 she was named as chief photographer of Rolling Stone. All photos taken by her reflect a little piece of each subjects personality. Leibovitz is jewish and nonobservant. Asked if being Jewish is important to her, She replied: " I'm not a practicing jew, but I feel very jewish." She had a decade-plus close relationship with noted writer and essayist Susan Sontag.
